A Bengaluru community united by a love for food is thriving in the city's vibrant dining scene. The Dastarkhwan Club brings together food enthusiasts for lively gatherings at local eateries, fostering friendships beyond just culinary interests. Co-founder Akash Devaraju emphasizes that the group's diverse members share a passion for exploring the origins and cultural significance of different cuisines. With over 60 participants in their WhatsApp group and growing interest, the club celebrates the unique synergy that arises from communal dining experiences. Inspired by a shared Iftaar meal, the group adopted the name "Dastarkhwan" to reflect their vision of coming together through food. Member Tharini Thakur highlights the deeper connection forged through these gatherings, likening it to a window into history. Fellow participant Abhishek Gupta appreciates the personal touch of the club's gatherings compared to more formal events, emphasizing the enriching and communal nature of the experience."Visiting someone's home in Kashmir provided valuable insights into their culture and way of life," he explains. Meghna, another participant, appreciates the unique and curated nature of each event, noting that having someone from the specific culture present enhances the experience. Community dining experiences include Rozana, where restaurant owners share insights into culinary history, Safarnama food walks exploring different cuisines, and Mehfil gatherings where people open their homes to showcase their culture.
